Faith over Fear
Have you ever had a struggle with your faith? Have you been in circumstances that seemed hopeless trying to hold onto faith when all you could feel was fear and hopelessness? Well I definitely have. God taught me a great lesson about faith 8 years ago. I thought I had faith until it was tested in a most severe way. Everything in the natural world was saying, “it’s over, just give up”. God kept leading me to faith scriptures in the bible especially to Hebrews 11, the faith chapter. I can’t say that I didn’t constantly waver, but what I was fighting for was so important all I could do was trust God.
From time to time things happen that are completely out of our hands, and as a control freak I have a hard time handling those. I’m sure I’m not the only one. I was reminded that it is impossible to please God without faith. I knew God was big enough to take care of the problem, but I just couldn’t see how it was going to happen. I learned a valuable lesson… Trust God!
I was watching a minister talk about faith the other day and he mentioned a horse wearing blinders. It caused me to think about that scene in Gone with the Wind where Rhett was leading a horse out of Atlanta as it was burning. He had to put a sack over the horse’s head so he could not see the flames in order to lead him out of the fiery city. Before he put the sack on, the horse was frozen in fear. Have you ever been frozen in fear? This scene caused me to think about Christians and how we allow fear to freeze us in our tracks. Fear of rejection, fear of death, fear of the unknown, just to name a few. That horse had to trust its rider to bring him to safety, but he couldn’t do it as long as he was looking at the circumstances that surrounded him. Being frozen with fear can sometimes even lead to death, but faith says I know I can’t see but I trust you to bring me thru this. Jesus is calling us to take our eyes off of our circumstances and keep our eyes on Him. You can feel the heat of the fire but if we keep our eyes and our trust in Jesus and His ability, he will always lead us to safety.
